The house is a privileged entity for a phenomenological study of the intimate values of inside space” and “all really inhabited space bears the essence of the notion of home.
— Gaston Bachelard

Home, is a place where we first become acquainted with after we are born. It is where we become closer to the people with whom we share the space with through time. It is also a space where there is room for conflicts, reconciliation, negotiation and growth. A Home is made by its inhabitants; their presence, dreams, memories and imagination. Age and experience are elemental ingredients to the way we navigate and respond to the environment around us.

This project provided an opportunity for six youths to collaborate with six senior citizens from Jia Ying Community Services Society under Mary’s mentorship to create six sculptural representations that interpret the meaning of Home made out of found-materials from home. The aim of inter-generational engagement endeavoured to introduce new ways of seeing, experiencing and understanding through conversation and interaction.
