The Artist Struggle

2019

The Theatre Practice, Singapore

The Artist Struggle is part of Artist Farm at The Theatre Practice. This piece was a return to our innate drive for perfection, continuation, pain, pleasure, preservation, perseverance, madness, obsession and control. Most importantly, it is about creation. Each step taken by the actors was an informed decision and it was a conscious choice to struggle.

The Artist Struggle is a bittersweet conundrum. Yet, we choose it every day. We consciously create our own struggles and these decisions that we make are a reflection of us. The critic-public-eye we fear so much is actually a veneer for the real critic; Ourself.

Artist Farm is led by The Theatre Practice's Artistic Director, Kuo Jian Hong. Participants include TTP's associate artists, as well as other local and international directors, designers and performers.

Artists are put to work as they engage in training and skill exchange in the mornings, followed by creative sparring and development in the afternoon. A series of presentations and dialogues will mark the end of this residency.
